BGM Fastener, located in the USA is a manufacturer and distributor of military, aerospace, and critical commercial fasteners.
REACH is a European Community Regulation on chemicals and their safe use
(EC 1907/2006). It deals with the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and
Restriction of Chemical substances. The law entered into force on 1 June 2007. The goal of REACH is to improve the protection of human health and
the environment through the better and earlier identification of the intrinsic properties of chemical substances.
IAW EC1097/2006, REACH rules only pertain to EU members and EU importers are responsible to ensure the products are REACH compliant.
BGM provides Aerospace, Military, and critical commercial fasteners, which are exempt from REACH requirements when used as sold (EC1907/2006 M5§23).
Currently the European Chemicals Agency identifies 211 SVHC’s, candidate list date 2021-01-19 (Substance of Very High Concern) as potentially harmful.
In accordance with Article 33 in the REACH regulation, it is our duty to disclose the presence of SVHC’s in excess of 0.1% of article weight.
The purpose of this statement is for BGM to provide this information to help any downstream users assess the commodities compliance with REACH.
BGM Fastener Co., Inc.’s current product status as it relates to REACH is as follows:
Most BGM Fastener Co., Inc. manufactured items meet the reach definition of an article as outlined above.
Therefore for these products are in compliance with REACH. In addition raw material used in the manufacture of these products is REACH compliant.
Exceptions which contain in excess of 0.1% of article weight of a SVHC are listed below in generic terms.

BGM supplies steel articles with cadmium plating EC#231-152-8 (CAS# 7440-43-9).
Normally these parts (NASM90725/26, NASM51095/96) and their MS part number equivalents, B18231A..., B1821A...,
MS51967/68, MS35691, and B18.24 pin system where characters 16+17 are cadmium)
are exempt as they are articles and components of the articles used in aeronautical,
aerospace, mining, offshore and nuclear sectors whose applications require high safety
standards and in safety devices in road and agricultural vehicles, rolling stock and vessels. (EC1907/2006 M5§23)
Care must be taken not to use these cadmium plated products in a commercial environment!
